Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Rebecca Harris for her commitment to helping women start and grow businesses and for her strategic mission to promote systemic and cultural change in the business community and congratulates Rebecca Harris for ten successful years at Chatham University ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 24, 2019, to be "REBECCA HARRIS DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University , established in 2005, creates economic opportunities for women through entrepreneurial education and training, mentoring and networking; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rebecca Harris, educated at Northwestern University with a B.S. in Communication and an MBA in Marketing from the Fox School of Business at Temple University, has been the Executive Director of the Center for 10 years, expanding its programs through its designation as a Women’s Business Center by the U.S. Small Business Administration and adding an entrepreneurial hub at Chatham’s Eastside campus that includes financial literacy and digital literacy programs, and prototyping design space for makers; and, 

 

WHEREASRebecca Harris has applied her entrepreneurial skills to effect big changes to benefit women business owners through the design and implementation of new programming, like the Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series, and other successful programs like MyBoard, MyBusiness Startup, MyBusiness Growth and MyConsulting Corner; and, 

 

WHEREAS, after ten years of  leading the Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University, Rebecca will be stepping down, knowing that the education , training, mentorships and other programs for female business owners are strong and in good shape. Using 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, consultant and marketing specialist, Rebecca will be restarting a consulting business she operated before joining the center that works with women, minorities and nonprofits. In addition to continue to serve on local nonprofit boards including 412 Food Rescue and the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, she will assist Chatham with the Center’s transition as a consultant after September.
