WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Luther J. Sewell, Jr. and Roxanne Norman Sewell with their Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award; and,
WHEREAS, Luther J. Sewell, Jr. founded the LJS Group in 1962 and Roxanne Norman Sewell, his wife, was named president in 2008; this minority owned and operated business has succeeded and excelled with a focus in special market communications. Luther Sewell has been a pioneer in the publishing industry and Roxanne Norman Sewell worked for major corporations before joining LJS Group, producing publications and hosting events that promote community participation in local and state politics and community development; and,
WHEREAS, Talk Magazine, the company’s cornerstone product, covers critical life issues as well as positive stories and images about the African American community. In addition to publishing, the LJS group provides consulting services for the minority community and has worked as consultants, analysts, organizers, planners and as mediators for organizations interested in effectively reaching special markets; and,
WHEREAS, Luther and Roxanne Sewell have a blended family of four adult children and five grandchildren and are members of the Trinity AME Church family; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Luther J. Sewell, Jr. and Roxanne Norman Sewell for receiving the 2019 Legendary Lifetime Achievement Award from Nabhi Christian Ministries for their extraordinary body of work as exemplary professionals and dedicated role models in the service of their community.
