Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Sheran Zellous White for her selfless work serving widows in our city and abroad; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, September 17, 2019 to be "Sheran Zellous White Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Sheran Zellous White is the Founder/Executive Director of the Five James Foundation, a non-profit organization which benefits widows, orphans and women in Kenya, Uganda, Mexico and the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, the Five James Foundation was birthed in 2011 after a trip to Kenya, where Ms. White was introduced to 5 widows. Being a widow herself, Sheran had a special place in her heart for these women; and,

WHEREAS, in addition, Sheran lost five loved ones, all of whom carried the name James and the book of James in the Bible, which has only 5 chapters, speaks strongly about caring for widows; hence, the Five James Foundation was born; and

WHEREAS, Ms. White continued to visit Kenya the next five years since her initial visit, and in 2016, she was asked to lead a team to Guadalajara to minister to women and children in crisis and lead a children's basketball camp during Vacation Bible School; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her work with the Five James Foundation, Sheran is currently supporting two young girls to attend the Neighborhood Academy and she is a member of Allegheny Center Alliance Church where she is the Administrative Coordinator for an Aftercare Jail & Prison Ministry Support Group, the facilitator for the Grief Share and founded the Widow's Ministry; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. White is the author of an award winning book titled "I Am Ready To Come Right Away", a personal story about her 22 year old grandson who passed away from stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma while serving his 4-8 year prison term. She wrote the book hoping to give anyone grieving, a reason to put their faith in God; and,
