Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Mary Ann McHarg for her dedicated service to the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh and for her meaningful commitment to the Hazelwood neighborhood and congratulates her on her many years of service and wishes her well on her retirement; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, September 8, 2019, to be "Mary Ann McHarg Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mary Ann McHarg began her career with the Carnegie Library in 1996 when she went to work for full time for the Library; and,

 

WHEREAS, having been through two library re-locations and served in 3 separate libraries including the Main Branch, Mary Ann came to the Hazelwood Library as temporary Branch Manager in 2000. She has since served as the Hazelwood Library Branch Manager since and will celebrate her retirement this year; and,

 

WHEREAS, in addition to her extraordinary service to the Hazelwood Library, Mary Ann was involved in the first stages of the Almono Development , now known as Hazelwood Green, and was a member of the Environment and Sustainability Committee for the Community Development Plan; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ann facilitated the pilot for the Pittsburgh Police Chess Program which has grown from a pilot to a full program in other library locations over the last 4 years. In addition,.  Mary Ann has worked with Arts Excursion Unlimited which is run through the city’s Office of Public Art and supported by the Heinz Foundation which pairs artists with libraries and has been a successful initiative for the last 5 years; and,
