Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the significant impact of Jennifer Tober, and recognizes the important contribution of Shakespeare in the Parks to the Pittsburgh community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 to be "Jennifer Tober and Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks 15th Anniversary Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks has contributed to the rich cultural fabric of our City since 2005, nurturing our minds and souls with 15 seasons featuring 14 plays, five Weeks of Will, and the world premiere of Supernatural Shakespeare, all showcasing more than 200 actors, directors, designers, and musicians; and,

 

WHEREAS, PSIP creates lively, accessible, imaginative Shakespeare productions so the Bard’s timeless words can resonate to further inform our worlds, the human condition, and ourselves; and,

 

WHEREAS, when actor and director Jennifer Tober moved to Pittsburgh from New York City she envisioned a professional outdoor theatre company in the Steel City that would again bring free Shakespeare to Pittsburgh residents, and founded Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks in 2005 after being inspired by the natural amphitheater at the bottom of Squirrel Hill’s Frick Park; and,

 

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks provides valuable opportunities for the region's professional actors to perform in classical masterworks, while inspiring fresh creative expression and appreciation of the Arts for a diverse and grateful audience of all ages; and, 

 

WHEREAS, the annual “free for all” opportunity in our beautiful City parks provides unique experiences that bring Pittsburghers closer together through the magic of storytelling, the power of words, and the inspiration of imagination; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year’s first all-female production stages the political drama JULIUS CAESAR at three different neighborhood parks, marking PSIP's 15th anniversary season and introducing new educational and audience initiatives, while audience members will surpass 15,000 this September; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate the significant impact of Jennifer Tober, and recognizes the important contribution of Shakespeare in the Parks to the Pittsburgh community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 to be “Jennifer Tober and Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks 15th Anniversary Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
