Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, WAICY is celebrating its second annual event, where children from over 195 countries are invited to attend and use AI to solve some of our most pressing issues around the globe; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, July 27th, 2019 to be "Artificial Intelligence Learning Day for Kids" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, more than half a century ago in Pittsburgh, the birthplace of Artificial Intelligence, Carnegie Mellon University's Allen Newell and Herb Simon had a vision for a general problem-solver for the human race. Since then, their vision has become a filter: people attracted to building a solution to real-world problems through Artificial Intelligence; and,

WHEREAS, for the first time in history, ReadyAI, the first AI K-12 education company founded in Pittsburgh hosted the World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY) on Carnegie Mellon University's campus where students from every continent participated in this event; and,

WHEREAS, WAICY is a testament of Pittsburgh's commitment to innovation and fostering this city as the right place to lead the AI charge in the 21st century for the next generation, students and educators alike. The WAICY aims to bring AI to students all around the world and spark creative, innovative, and artistic demonstrations of the technology that can make a change for a better future; and,

WHEREAS, WAICY is a global competition for students ages 4 -18 that challenges them to solve real problems using AI technology; and,

WHEREAS, WAICY and ReadyAI believe in bringing AI education to every child in the city of Pittsburgh and beyond by opening doors to Artificial Intelligence for underrepresented talent through education; and,

WHEREAS, A vision for AI is a world where diverse thought, perspectives, and voices unlock AI's potential to benefit humanity and we believe it starts in Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, there are many different definitions of AI. At ReadyAI and WAICY, we consider AI to be a branch of computer science that allows computers to make predictions and decisions to solve problems. Artificial intelligence is having a huge impact on our world, and can be used to solve such as climate change, misleading news headlines, and disease diagnosis; and,
