WHEREAS, Jada House is a social ministry of healing established by Terri Shields in 2014 to assist and reflect on social and personal daily issues like spiritual awareness, self -esteem, creativity awareness and family values; and,
WHEREAS, as a non-profit, faith based community outreach, Jada House provides teens 13-17, juniors 6-12 and adults with a safe place to educate each other in believing success is a possibility and that each person has a rightful place in our community; and,
WHEREAS, Jada House originally met in Terri Shields’ home but since its inception has grown large enough to have its own space in the Spartan Center in Hazelwood and sponsors community activities like a Toy Drive, Senior Luncheon and a Backpack collection. Jada House was begun by Terri Shields, a native of Hazelwood, when she recognized the need for a place for people to discuss their personal and spiritual challenges around a meal. A graduate of Carlow College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Terri overcame personal and health struggles to become a Social Worker with a vison and a mission that established Jada House ;and,
WHEREAS, Jada House is a thriving community resource that provides Adult Night, Teen Night, Jada House Jr’s Night, distribution of baked goods from La Gourmandine, Report Card Incentives and Community Bereavement Support and will be celebrating its 5 year Anniversary on June 22, 2019,with a celebration at the PBF Union Hall on Flowers Avenue in Hazelwood; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Terri Shields for her vision in making Jada House an important community asset and congratulates Jada House for providing invaluable assistance to those who need it the most; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 22, 2019, to be “JADA HOUSE DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
