Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Rev. Wayne Meyer for his service to the Sheraden Methodist Church and to the neighborhood of Sheraden; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Sunday, June 9, 2019 to be "Rev. Wayne Meyer Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Rev. Wayne Meyer has served the Sheraden United Methodist Church since July, 2006 and is known to many as “Chef Wayne” as he prepared the meals for community dinners, a summer lunch program and youth program held at the church; and,

 

WHEREAS, Rev. Meyer believed in embracing the community and, with his guidance, encouraged the church members to open up the doors to the neighborhood through the use of many outreach programs such as a community thrift store, a summer lunch feeding program for school age children, a Bible Study and free community dinners held once a month, in conjunction with West End Christian Ministries; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2008, an evening Kidz Klub program was started, serving children ages 6-16 with a safe place to come and enjoy a hot meal, many activities and support from the church volunteers to keep them on the right track in life; and,

 

WHEREAS, Wayne also served as the Pastor at Christ Community Church in McKees Rocks for the past 26 years where he also took part in their community outreach programs such as Meals on Wheels serving meals to the West End neighborhood of Pittsburgh and McKees Rocks residents; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is also a member of the Sheraden Kiwanis Club and serves on the Board of Directors for the Goodwill Housing Board, currently as President; and 

 

WHEREAS, Wayne and his wife, Kathie are the proud parents of 2 sons and have 4 grandchildren with whom he is looking forward to spending more time with after his retirement on June 30, 2019; and,
