Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Movie Scene Queen for its contributions to journalism, film and education; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 14, 2019, to be "Movie Scene Queen Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Movie Scene Queen is an interactive entertainment blog for free movies and music. Since inception, MSQ has hosted 214 advanced move screenings and distributed more the 50,000 FREE movie tickets to Pittsburgh residence; and,

 

WHEREAS, all services for Movie Scene Queen are at no cost. More than half of their movie tickets have been distributed to schools and school programs from Pittsburgh Faison, Pittsburgh Westinghouse, Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center, and Pittsburgh Obama. MSQ provides opportunities for schools and community groups to have free access to movies; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mercedes J. Howze, owner and operator of Movie Scene Queen uses her social network popularity to share her access to private movie screenings with everyone; and,

 

WHEREAS, WHIRL Magazine inducted Merecedes and Movie Scene Queen in the 2016 Women in Business Class.  In April 2018, Movie Scene Queen earned Pennsylvania Keystone Press Award-second place for Feature Beat Reporting. In January, Movie Scene Queen celebrated six years of being in business; and,
