Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Westwood Women's Club on the occasion of their 100th Anniversary and thank them for their civic service; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Wednesday, May 1, 2019 to be "Westwood Women's Club Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Westwood Women’s Club is celebrating its 100th Anniversary May 1, 2019; and,

 

WHEREAS, during World War I, ladies met to roll bandages for soldiers overseas and continued to meet after the war making rag rugs for hospitalized Vets and an Honor Roll was erected; and, 

 

WHEREAS, in April of 1919, those ladies formed the Westwood Women’s Club as an organized center for women to continue to work on civic initiatives and advance their interests. During World War II, blood was donated and garden plots were provided for food and community clean-up days were started; and,

 

WHEREAS, since their beginning, the Westwood Women’s Club has been through forty-seven presidents and continue to serve Veterans, children, the disabled and tackle major health concerns; and,

 

WHEREAS, they have helped needy families by donating food to local food banks and collecting clothing, shoes and toys. They have donated Bibles to a local prison, supported churches, schools, the Scouts and other institutions with many various needs; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Westwood Women’s Club relies on funds raised from street fairs, dinners, luncheons, bake sales and card parties just to name a few and by local support such as Mr. and Mrs. Chas Luzier, retired grocery store owners; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate the Westwood Women’s Club on the occasion of their 100th Anniversary and thank them for their civic service; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Wednesday, May 1, 2019 to be “Westwood Women’s Club Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
