WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life and honor those who have devoted their lives to improving our community; and,
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 50 years as well as members of the Allegheny County Bar Association; and,
WHEREAS, The 59th Annual Reception will honor Justice Max Baer of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, as he is being awarded with the prestigious Judge Robert E. Dauer award for Judicial Excellence by the Amen Corner for his outstanding leadership and his judicial excellence; and,
WHEREAS, Justice Baer, a ‘71 graduate of The University of Pittsburgh and a ‘75 graduate of Duquesne Law School, started in public service as a Deputy Attorney General from 1975-1980 before entering private practice. Justice continued his education at Robert Morris, completing a Masters of Tax program in 1986; and,
WHEREAS, Justice Baer won his first election for Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County in 1989 and then he was elected Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 2003; and,
WHEREAS, Justice Baer continues to be a model of judicial excellence on the bench of the Supreme Court and has been honored with the PA Council of Mediator’s Most Valuable Peacemaker Award and the Three Rivers Youth Nellie Award for Civic Leadership.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Justice Max Baer on receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership & Excellence Award for his contributions to our community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 2nd 2019 to be “Justice Max Baer Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
