Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and congratulates WQED for sixty-five years of excellence in communications and community service to the residents of Pittsburgh, America, and the rest of the world; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 9th, 2019, "WQED Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, sixty-five years ago, on April 1, 1954, television viewers in southwestern Pennsylvania saw the birth of an innovative black and white concept called community-supported educational television; and,

 

WHEREAS, WQED was made possible by the community: thousands of families in the region each contributed $2 to help launch the station; and,

 

WHEREAS, WQED has gone from a modest single signal to a multi-media powerhouse over those Sixty-Five years; and,

 

WHEREAS, WQED has always seen its role in the community as providing a safe, inclusive place for all and this year is launching a multi-platform campaign in which everyone can participate sharing stories of kindness; and,

 

WHEREAS, the community is invited to the Fred Rogers Studio on October 1, 2019, so that they can participate in a night to celebrate kindness which will feature vendors, local celebrities, raffles, PBS characters, and more, and,

 

WHEREAS, WQED will also celebrate its 65th anniversary by showing vintage WQED programming, showing to hear about growing up in Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, a social media campaign where people can post things they love about WQED and Pittsburgh, Special 65th Anniversary spots both on TV and radio, Instagram stories of WQED’s 65th years of service to the community; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and congratulates WQED for sixty-five years of excellence in communications and community service to the residents of Pittsburgh, America, and the rest of the world; and,
