Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Krause Family for its vision and generosity and Jewish Residential Services for its commitment to continuing its mission of helping members of the Pittsburgh community with psychiatric, development or intellectual disabilities live self-sufficiently and with dignity; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, April 11, 2019 to be "JEWISH RESIDENTIAL SERVICES DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jewish Residential Services supports individuals with psychiatric, development or intellectual disabilities by helping them to love, learn work and socialize as valued members of the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, at the corner of Murray Avenue and Forward Avenues in Squirrel Hill in the former location of Poli’s Restaurant, Jewish Residential Services has opened its new office space in the building known as Krause Commons; and,

 

WHEREAS, Krause Commons is also the new location of the Sally and Howard Levin Clubhouse, a licensed psychiatric and social rehabilitation program to help adults affected by mental illness lead more productive lives; and,

 

WHEREAS, Krause Commons includes 33 new units of affordable housing, 17 with a preference for individuals with intellectual or mental health disabilities; and,

 

WHEREAS, Krause Commons is a testament to the commitment and generosity of the late Corrinne Azen Krause and the late Dr. Seymoure Krause, and that of many other individuals; and,

 

WHEREAS, Jewish Residential Services has worked with ACTION-Housing, CHI-Squirrel Hill Gateway Lofts LLC, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, Mosities Construction Company, Forty-Eight Architecture, National Equity Fund, BNY Mellon, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh and other partners to make Krause Commons a reality; and,
