Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize, celebrate and thank Hugh Brannan III for his tireless work as the Executive Director of The Brashear Association; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, March 22nd, 2019 to be "HUGH BRANNAN DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, during their 1983 search for an Executive Director, The Brashear Association unanimously determined the best choice for the position was the current Director of Allentown Senior Center: Hugh Brannan; and,

WHEREAS, Hugh Brannan assumed the role of Executive Director of the Brashear Association on April 1, 1983, during the closing of the LTV Steel Mill and the cutback of funding from the United Way; and,

WHEREAS, under Hugh Brannan's leadership, the Brashear Association moved to better financial footing and necessarily provided a variety of services for the residents of the South Pittsburgh in the wake of the LTV closure; and,

WHEREAS, during Hugh Brannan's time at Brashear Association, they have expanded to five locations: South Side, Arlington, Allentown, Mt. Oliver and the Henry Kaufmann Center in South Side Slopes and are currently expanding to the Knoxville Neighborhood; and,

WHEREAS, through his work with the Brashear Association, Hugh Brannan has worked to grow community organizations and has been part of the leadership of South Pittsburgh Economic Revitalization Team, Allentown Civic Association, South Side Local Development Company, South Side Chamber of Commerce as well as the South Side Planning Forum; and,

WHEREAS, in the thirty-six years that Hugh Brannan has directed the Brashear Association, it has provided key services to thousands of people who might not have the opportunity elsewhere; and,

WHEREAS, Hugh Brannan is a Baltimore Native who originally intended to be a Lutheran Pastor and never intended to spend his career in South Side, but now his impact is felt by every single resident of South Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Hugh Brannan has made an exerted effort to make sure that Brashear is a neutral party among the strong personalities and the strong politics of the area; and,
