Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, the 16th of March 2019, to be "Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Swing into Spring Arts Scholarship Fashion Show and Luncheon Day " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University, Washington, D.C., by 22 outstanding collegiate women who wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and assistance to those in need. Delta was incorporated in 1930. It is a private, not-for-profit organization that has distinguished itself as a public service organizaion that boldly confronts the challenges of African-Americans and, hence, all Americans whose members strive to provide assistance and support in local communities throughout the world; and,

WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a Sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. Over the years, a range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and the strengthening of the African-American family has evolved into major programs based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. The Five-Point Programmatic Thrust is focused on Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. The five points come together to provide an extensive array of public service initiatives; and,

WHEREAS, since its founding, more than 200,000 women have joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. It currently has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters in the United States, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Republic of Korea; and,

WHEREAS, in 1971, previously chartered as the Alpha Epsilon Chapter since 1927, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter (PAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was chartered; and,

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was founded as a mixed chapter, incorporating graduate Sorors living in the Pittsburgh area and students attending Pittsburgh area colleges.
