WHEREAS, Carter Redwood, a product of Pittsburgh Public Schools, began his acting career at the age of ten as he grew into an accomplished scholar, athlete and entertainer; and,
WHEREAS, showcasing a precocious talent in the fine arts, Carter was the winner of the Pittsburgh Public Theater Shakespeare Monologue award in 7th and 11th grades, the August Wilson Monologue Contest as a national finalist and two time regional winner, a participant in a theatrical sojourn to Poland to perform in a poetry montage, “Angry Black Man Poetry”, and a founding member of the former August Wilson Center Theatre Ensemble; and,
WHEREAS, having received multiple scholarships such as the Pittsburgh Promise, Carter attended and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with High Honors, and receiving the Andrew Carnegie Scholar Award, the John Arthur Kennedy Award, and the Senior Recognition Award ; and,
WHEREAS, his professional work includes television appearances in shows such as Madame Secretary, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, National Geographic’s The Long Road Home, and Orange is the New Black, with film credits in Underdogs, Blood First, Yellowbirds and The Transformation, several of which have been selections in the Sundance Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival, and SXWS Film Festival; and,
WHEREAS, Carter has also expanded his reach in other media, such as doing voice-over work in 28 Days: Moments in Black History that Changed the World, and as a character in the Walking Dead: Michonne animated video game, and he was also recently selected in the first edition of the 2018 Pittsburgh Public Schools Black History Alumni in the Arts; and,
WHEREAS, Carter returned home to Pittsburgh as a lead performer in the City Theatre production of Pipeline, playing the character Omari in a story about a young boy on the brink of losing an educational opportunity at an all-white school as a result of an incident with a teacher;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 10, 2018 to be “Carter Redwood Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
