Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church on their 150th anniversary and the work they do on behalf of the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 13, 2018, to be "Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary on November 17, 2018 at the Edgewood Country Club, with guest speaker Honorable Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, National Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church USA, leading the ceremony; and,

 

WHEREAS, founded by Rev. Henry Highland Garnet, a professor and abolitionist, Grace Church is the oldest African American Presbyterian Church west of Philadelphia, and is currently led by Rev. Gavin B.J. Walton; and,

 

WHEREAS, Grace Church has been blessed with leadership by some of the brightest minds in religion and the Presbyterian denomination, including Rev. Harold Toliver, Rev. Samuel George, Rev. Dr. Jonnie Monroe, and Rev. Dr. Ronald Peters, among others; and, 

 

WHEREAS, over the years, Grace Church founded and has sponsored various programs and initiatives, including the After School Tutorial Enrichment Program (A-STEP), a Boy Scout Troupe, Using Friendship to Reach and Equip our Children to Serve and Honor God (F.R.E.S.H.), multiple bible studies, a multi-cultural book club with various churches, and shared worship space with JUDAH Fellowship;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church on their 150th anniversary and the work they do on behalf of the community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 13, 2018, to be “Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
