Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Joel Sigal, Justin and Megan Sigal and the Littles Shoes Family for investing in the Squirrel Community, for their loyalty dedication and commitment to Pittsburgh and for their love of Squirrel Hill and congratulates Littles Shoes for being named the 2018 Place Treasure by the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, November 14, 2018 to be "LITTLES SHOES DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition has been honoring its special community Treasures in a celebratory dinner since 2010 and in this way, recognizes the people and places that make Squirrel Hill a great place to live , work and do business; and,

WHEREAS, this year, in additional to three worthy honorees, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition will award its 2018 Place Treasure to Littles Shoes, a three generation locally owned enterprise offering full service footwear and expertise and experience which has become over the years the main anchor in the Squirrel Hill commercial district; and,

WHEREAS, Littles began as a shoe store in 1932 and was sold to only its 2nd owner in 1975. Joel Sigal, the current CEO, purchased the business in 1985, securing the recognition of having only 3 owners in 86 years of business. Joel Sigal's grandfather, Sam Frishman, came to this country from Russia as a baby and in 1920, started a career in the shoe business with his first store in the Hill District, Rosenberg and Frishman which grew to 3 stores and a shoe factory; and,

WHEREAS, Joel Sigal worked with his grandfather in every aspect of the business from the time he was a child, learning the industry. After working for Kaufmann's, he opened three locations of J. Sigal Shoes until he purchased Little's in 1985. Because family was such a priority, Justin, Sigal, Joel's son and Littles President, and his wife Megan, worked at the business hands on in European shoe factories to learn every aspect of the business. Today, Littles Shoes prides itself on service, quality and loyalty. Several of Littles employees have been with the family for many years; and,
