Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Arletta Scott Williams for her leadership and commitment to the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority and congratulates her for twenty years of dedicated service to ALCOSAN; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, October 25, 2018, to be "Arletta Scott Williams Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, born and raised in Pittsburgh, Arletta Scott Williams graduated first in her class at Westinghouse High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, paving the way for an extraordinary professional career that valued diversity and inclusion; and,

WHEREAS, Arletta began her career at U.S. Steel before joining Alcosan in 1984 as a Shift Engineer. By 1996, she was Director of Operations and Maintenance, a position in which she was responsible for the daily operations of the wastewater treatment plant, 85 miles of interceptor sewer lines and 160 employees. In 1997 she concurrently served as Deputy Executive Director, and in 1998, she was appointed Executive Director of Alcosan, the first woman and African American to serve as Executive Director of the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority; and,

WHEREAS, coming from a family with a long legacy of public service, Arletta Scott Williams has led Alcosan with integrity and honor. She strives to make sure that all ranks of employment are open to workers of all backgrounds and has assembled a diverse workforce of 400 employees who have every opportunity to achieve and excel at Alcosan. African American managers lead Alcosan's Industrial Waste, Laboratory and Municipal Outreach Departments and women head the Departments of Safety, Security, Human Resources, Laboratory, Procurement, Scholastic Outreach, Accounting and Municipal Outreach and serve as Directors of Communication and Regional Conveyance; and,
