WHEREAS, after 39 years with the City of Pittsburgh, Mr. Larry Jones retired on October 16, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones began with the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Emergency Medical Services on July 30, 1979 as a Paramedic and during his career he served as a Rescue Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Tactical EMS Medic with SWAT, River Rescue Diver, and Swiftwater Technician and Rescue Instructor; and,
WHEREAS, he served 12 years on Rescue Two, primarily covering Downtown and the South Hills and he was promoted to Paramedic Crew Chief serving in that capacity for 28 years in the West End at Medic 3 retiring at Rescue 2 located on the Boulevard of the Allies; and,
WHEREAS, Larry is a Pittsburgh EMS Honor Guard member and, as a bagpiper, founded the Pittsburgh Paramedic Pipes and Drums honoring our fallen brothers and sisters in public safety traveling from Colorado Springs CO to Dublin, Ireland; and,
WHEREAS, Larry is the proud father of his son Cody and looks forward to traveling the country with his wife Denise of 38 years and working occasionally as a boat captain; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate his retirement and commend Larry Jones for his years of dedication and invaluable service to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 23, 2018, to be “Larry Jones’ Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
