Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Kevin Stevens and Familylinks; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 16, 2018, to be "Kevin Stevens and Familylinks Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Kevin Stevens was an All-Star forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1987-1995 playing as a winger with Mario Lemieux and including outstanding performances in the team's two Stanley Cup victories in 1991 and 1992; and

WHEREAS, Familylinks has served this region for more than 50 years, currently providing a full range of family-centered support services to more than 11,000 individuals each year, including addiction support services, emergency youth homeless shelter, older adult resources, caregiver support, prevention education in schools, and family counseling; and,

WHEREAS, Kevin Stevens and Familylinks formed a partnership, Power Forward with Familylinks, in April, 2018, to expand community outreach activities aimed at prevention, education, awareness, recovery and hope for individuals dealing with addiction and for their families; and,

WHEREAS, Kevin endured an opioid addiction for 20 years after a devastating injury during a Penguins game in 1993 which led to a series of surgeries and opioid prescriptions; and,

WHEREAS, Kevin has now been in recovery since 2016 and has devoted his time to community service aimed at removing the stigma of addiction and bringing a message of prevention and hope to individuals in Boston and Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, during that same timeframe, Familylinks has expanded its decades-long in-patient and out-patient addiction services to include a Suboxone Clinic, Recovery House, client support including child care and transportation, and additional community outreach; and,

WHEREAS, Familylinks provides its services to individuals with private insurance but also Medicare, Medicaid and can often work with those who need assistance in securing benefits; and,

WHEREAS, the Power Forward with Familylinks partnership has brought Kevin's personal message together with the availability of Familylinks' addiction services to more than 2,000 individuals since April, 2018 including WPIAL students and coaches, indivi...
