WHEREAS, The Corner, a program of Friendship Community Church, has served as a safe space for culture and community for the neighborhoods of West Oakland, Oak Hill and the Hill District for the past 7 years, and has always opened its doors to the greater Pittsburgh community; and,
WHEREAS, with a stated mission of connecting neighbors to community resources that provide affordable community driven activities centered on social justice, advocacy, arts and education, The Corner will be hosting its 3rd Annual Fundraiser, Jazz on the Hill, to help support its programmatic initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, Jazz on the Hill will be hosted on October 4 at the Energy Innovation Center, and will be a celebration of the rich legacy of Jazz Music in the historic Hill District, as Hill District artists and community leaders will who have made significant contributions to the cultural fabric of Pittsburgh will be honored; and,
WHEREAS, honorees at Jazz on the Hill include Terri Baltimore, Director of Neighborhood Engagement of the Hill House; Roger Barbour, trumpeter; Tony Campbell, saxophonist; Tubby Daniels, vibraphonist and Centre Ave YMCA Boxing Coach; Dwayne Dolphin, bassist; George Gist, muralist and musician; Teresa Hawthorne, vocalist; Nelson Harrison, trumpeter and trombonist; Harold Lee, drummer; Earl Reynolds, musician; Mark Strickland, guitarist and keyboardist; Horace Turner, keyboardist, drummer, guitarist and tuba player; Warren Watson, saxophonist; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend all the honorees being recognized at the 3rd Annual Jazz on the Hill fundraiser; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 4, 2018 to be “Jazz on the Hill Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
