Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Chief Darryl Jones for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from Nabhi Christian Ministries for being an inspirational change agent with exceptional training, strategic leadership skills, strength, character, endurance, faith, intelligence and vision.

WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Chief
Darryl Jones with their Lifetime Achievement Award; and,

WHEREAS, Chief Darryl Jones, a resident of Pittsburgh and having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Carlow University , a Masters of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Safety from Capella University , began his 20 year career with the Aliquippa Fire Department before joining the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire in 2007. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Officer Program and the Harvard School of Public Health and School of Government's National Preparedness Leadership Initiative. Committed to the safety and training of Pittsburgh firefighters as well as the citizens of Pittsburgh, Chief Jones became the first African American Chief of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, and,

WHEREAS, under Chief Jones's leadership, the Pittsburgh Fire Bureau has expanded its Free Smoke Detector Program, initiated the Risk Watch Program in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, refurbished the Bureau's Company Inspection Program and has had 100% of its personnel certified to the Firefighter II level. He has modernized the Bureau's apparatus and the firefighter's personal protective equipment and because of the safety education, improved firefighter training and the upgrading of equipment, the ISO rating for the city has improved from a Class 4 department to a Class 1 Fire Department. Chief Jones is an instructor in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Science, and Leadership and spends his free time with his family, reading and listening to jazz; and,
