WHEREAS, EDWARD "ED" OROSS was born on the Fourth of July in 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, after graduating from Munhall High School in 1964 and attending both Point Park College and Carnegie Tech, Ed worked briefly as a steelworker in U.S.S. Homestead Mill, just like his father; and,
WHEREAS, Ed spent time as an amateur Golden Gloves boxing champion and had offers to play minor league baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals; and,
WHEREAS, Ed was offered a partial singing scholarship to study with Ralph Lewando in New York, he promptly boarded a Greyhound bus from Pittsburgh to "The Big Apple" with only $300 and a dream; and,
WHEREAS, after studying singing and acting in New York City, Ed began his legendary career, first on stage as an actor in many classics such as Shakespeare, Ibsen, and Chekhov, and then in film and movies with his debut film, "Dear Mr. Wonderful"; and,
WHEREAS, Ed went on to star in roles opposite of his kind spirit, often cast as villains, cops, and army officers; and,
WHEREAS, Ed has appeared in many films over the last 36 years including Full Metal Jacket, Lethal Weapon, and Red Heat, as well as well-known TV shows such as Six Feet Under, Seinfeld, Frasier, NYPD Blue, and CSI: NY; and,
WHEREAS, currently, Ed works with two groups of young filmmakers in developing projects as a writer, director, producer, and actor, sharing his talents with the next generation of stars; and,
WHEREAS, this September, Ed received the first ever "Lifetime Achievement Award" called "The Victor Argo Award," at the Hell's Kitchen Film Festival in New York City hosted by John Hoyt, presented to famous character actors in movies and TV; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend EDWARD "ED" OROSS; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 18, 2018, to be "ED OROSS DAY" in the ...
