Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 8, 2018, to be "Riverview Park Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Riverview Park was created by Allegheny City on land that belonged to Sam Watson and was known as Watson's Farm. Mayor William M. Kennedy and the residents of Allegheny City pooled their money and purchased Watson's farm in 1894, donating the land to the City of Allegheny; and,

 

WHEREAS, Riverview Park is the largest park on the Northside of Pittsburgh, the fourth largest park in the City of Pittsburgh, and is one of the four original “Regional Asset’ Parks located within the City; and, WHEREAS, Riverview Park has historically been a forgotten greenspace in the city of Pittsburgh, resulting in the formation of an advocacy organization; and,

 

WHEREAS, Friends of Riverview Park (FORP) was formed to improve the park, to ensure better connections to surrounding neighborhoods, and to draw positive attention to Riverview Park; and,

 

WHEREAS, FORP works in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, the Northside Leadership Conference, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and others to promote and improve Riverview Park; and,

 

WHEREAS, FORP has created Riverview Park Day, a fun-filled family-friendly event for people to use and appreciate Riverview Park. This will create positive attention for the park and make people aware of its beauties and amenities; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 8, 2018, to be “Riverview Park Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
