As well as authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of City Planning to pay for these services MCKAY LODGE FINE ARTS CONSERVATION LABORATORY, INC in the amount of Eight Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-nine Dollars and Fifty-six cents  ($8,859.56).

 

WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration ("FHWA") has provided a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery ("TIGER") grant to the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh ("SEA") in conjunction with the construction of a cap over I-579; and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to process required by Section 106 of the National Historic  Preservation Act, the FHWA has further determined that the Cap Project will have an adverse effect on a City-owned pedestrian tunnel containing a mosaic by Virgil Cantini; and

 

WHEREAS, as part of the Section 106 process, the City must implement certain Stipulations, including the test removal of one panel of the mosaic; and

 

WHEREAS, CITY requires professional conservation services to perform this test removal and to complete a feasibility study regarding the removal of the remaining panels (“the Project”); and

 

WHEREAS, CONSULTANT is possessed of professional experience and expert skill and is qualified to perform the required services; and

 

WHEREAS, CITY desires to engage CONSULTANT upon the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth, and CONSULTANT is willing to accept such engagement upon such terms and conditions; and

 

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.                     The Mayor is hereby authorized to issue and the City Controller to countersign a warrant in favor of McKay Lodge Conservation Laboratory in the amount of $8,859.56 for photodocumentation, test removal of a mosaic section, and accompanying feasibility report. Chargeable to and payable from the City Planning account number 1126743017.53901.00
