WHEREAS, Pittsburgh has one of the nation’s most vibrant arts communities, and its local artists have played an integral role in the city’s ongoing transformation; and,
WHEREAS, each of Pittsburgh’s 90 distinct neighborhoods showcase the ethnic and cultural diversity, unique topography, beautiful views, and wide range of architecture that make our city so special; and
WHEREAS, over the course of a year, local artist and acclaimed plein aire painter Ron Donoughe was guided by his “desire to capture the spirit of a particular place and moment” and painted on-site portraits of all 90 Pittsburgh neighborhoods in a series titled 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods has been featured in a Pittsburgh Center for the Arts exhibition, published in a book entitled Pittsburgh: 90 Neighborhoods; the Paintings and Experiences of Artist Ron Donoughe, and displayed in the permanent collection of the Senator John Heinz History Center; and
WHEREAS, Ron Donoughe and his 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods project serve as superlative examples of the impact of the arts on our city’s continued revitalization; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend acclaimed artist Ron Donoughe for successfully capturing the unique essence of our communities in his 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods project and celebrates the contribution of artists in our city; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 1, 2018 to be “Ron Donoughe’s 90 Pittsburgh Neighborhoods Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
