Title: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the leadership and board of the New Leaders Council of Pittsburgh and celebrate the graduation and accomplishments of the 2018 class of New Leaders Council Fellows; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, June 13, 2018 to be "New Leaders Council of Pittsburgh Class of 2018 Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the New Leaders Council is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that works to recruit, train and promote the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow - trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the future landscape; and,

 

WHEREAS, the New Leaders Council recruits individuals and equips them with the skills necessary to be civic leaders in their communities and workplaces and guarantees no financial barriers to participants through New Leaders Council Institutes, which are recognized as the nation’s premiere progressive training programs; and,

 

WHEREAS, NLC graduates comprise an ever-expanding group of diverse progressive leaders who are rising to the top of their respective fields, creating an exciting network of highly-skilled individuals who collaborate across sectors to improve the progressive infrastructure and ensure strong democracy, social justice, and equal opportunity; and,

 

WHEREAS, the New Leaders Council Institutes were held amongst 48 chapters nationwide, training nearly 900 new leaders across sectors joining more than 6,000 alumni across the globe; and,

 

WHEREAS, a committed all-volunteer board of Jordan Ball, Rhiannon Cook, Tara Jerry, Hilary Marcella, Megan Neuf, Alyssa Lyon, Ricky Burgess, Lindsay Powell, Leah Scott, Lukas W. Bagshaw, Abigael Wolensky, Leah Rainey, Jenna Baron, and Rose Semple worked tirelessly to expand the New Leaders Council Chapter  in Pittsburgh in 2018 and provide engaging programs through which the fellows cultivated skills in fundraising, communications, and more and learned about their own career and personal goals; and,

 

WHEREAS, in June, the New Leaders Council of Pittsburgh will graduate their 2018 cohort of fellows consisting of: Julie Asciolla, Government and Public Relations Liaison, City of Pittsburgh; Oliver Beasley, Community Affairs Liaison, City of Pittsburgh; Vaibhav Birda, Medical Student, University of Pittsburgh; David Fortna, Associate Director of Admissions, Carnegie Mellon University; Kiandra Foster, Program Manager, United Way Southwestern PA; Antony Gnalian, Emerging Leaders Program Associate, Highmark Health Solutions; Traci Johnson, Associate, Denny Civic Solutions; Emily Kinkead, Law Clerk, Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania; Aishwarya Kumar, Local Government Management Fellow, City of Decatur; Dominique Luster, Archivist, Carnegie Museum of Art; John Marshall, Phone Canvass Manager, Clean Water Action; Jeffrey Morris, Project Manager, Manchester Bidwell Corporation; Cassia Priebe, Account Manager, Hilti Inc.; Ernest Rajakone, Community Affairs Liason, City of Pittsburgh; James Reid, Intern, Economic Development Department, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh; Meaza Solomon, Research Analyst, CivicScience; and,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the leadership and board of the New Leaders Council of Pittsburgh and celebrate the graduation and accomplishments of the 2018 class of New Leaders Council Fellows; and,
