WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women , children and families and safeguarding individual rights and freedoms for all; and,
WHEREAS, the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award is presented to an individual who has helped change and expand the role of other women in vital areas of community life, demonstrates leadership in improving the quality of life for people of all ages and backgrounds and who motivates others to fight for change which has resulted in progress or enlightenment in the community; and,
WHEREAS, for only the 17th time in its 125th history, the Pittsburgh Section of NCJW will present the Hannah G. Solomon Award to Susan Foreman Jordan at its 125 Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting on June 7, 2018; and,
WHEREAS, Susan Foreman Jordan served as Section Vice President for 8 years and as Secretary for two years after that. In her 20 plus years with NCJW, she served on the Human Resource Committee for 8 years, serving as its Chair of 6 of those years, revamping the Employment Handbook, writing employment and severance agreements. She chaired the Strategic Planning Process in 2010-2011 and again in 2015-2016. Susan has been on the Executive Search Committee 3 times, chairing it once. She also co-chaired 4 Annual Meetings, co-chaired Project Prom for its initial 2 year launch, co-chaired a Designer Days Patron Party, has been on the Retail Assessment Committee charged with assessing 3 retail stores, was on the Task Force that created the Center for Women as well as serving on the Center's Partners Council and is the current co-chair of Registration for the Back 2 School Store.
