Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the National Council of Jewish Women Pittsburgh Section for 125 years of outstanding and impactful community service and advocacy and wishes NCJW many more successful years; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, June 7, 2018, to be "NCJW PITTSBURGH SECTION 125TH ANNIVERSARY DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women is a volunteer organization that has been on the forefront of social change for over a century. Inspired by Jewish values, it is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action, strive for justice by improving the quality of life for women, children and families and safeguards individual rights and freedoms for all people; and,

WHEREAS, established in 1893, the Pittsburgh Section of the National Council of Jewish Women has been a change maker in the Pittsburgh region since its inception, meeting community needs and collaborating with non-profits, corporate partners and foundations to improve Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, some of the groundbreaking and legacy work of NCJW Pittsburgh Section includes the creation of the First Kindergarten in the Pittsburgh School District as well as the Penny Lunch, Head Start, Job Corps, the PA Vision Association, the establishment of institutions like LifesWork, Pioneer School. The Renaissance Center, the Jewish Community Center, the Children's Rooms in the Courts and programs like the Race for the Cure, Pic a Bag Project for Foster and Homeless Children, Project Prom, the Back 2 School Store and most recently, the Center for Women; and,

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Section will celebrate its 125 Anniversary and Annual Meeting at the University Club on Thursday, June 7th, 2018 with a dinner and a dramatic presentation from 5 long time partners of NCJW. In addition to mini- Ted Talks from volunteers and recipients of NCJW's services, special recognition will be given to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education, the Jewish Association on Aging, the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, the Jewish Family and Community Service and the Jewish Community Center; and,
