Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the dedication and commitment of St. Rosalia Church and Academy to serving the Catholic residents of Greenfield and congratulates the St. Rosalia Academy Boys Basketball Team on their hard work and in bringing home an undefeated basketball season and becoming Section Champs; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 22, 2018, to be "ST. ROSALIA BOYS BASKETBALL DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, St. Rosalia Church, established in 1900 and St. Rosalia Academy, opened in 1913, have been landmarks in the Greenfield Community of Pittsburgh, ministering and serving Catholics of Greenfield for a century; and,

WHEREAS, St. Rosalia School , renamed Academy in 2003, enrolls 99 students from PK, 3 to 8th Grade and as part of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, delivers quality education to its students but will be closing its doors at the end of the school year due to declining enrollment. One of the most important components of a quality education is the inclusion of sports and sportsmanship and St. Rosalia Academy has established an outstanding Athletic Association under the leadership of Athletic Director, Jim Deasy, Treasurer Josh Stead and Board Members Ellen Deasy, Linda Mazefsky, Darnell Long and Mary Ann Hatala; and,

WHEREAS, the 2017-2018 St. Rosalia Academy Boys Varsity Basketball Team finished the season as East 1-B Section Champs with an undefeated 18-0 record, beating tough Section rivals St. Raphael of Morningside, St. Maria Goretti of Bloomfield, St. Benedict the Moor of the Hill District, St. Bede of Point Breeze as well as teams from Wilkinsburg, Plum, Munhall, McKeesport and Monroeville; and,

WHEREAS, the Championship team consisted of players, Andrew Butch, J.T DePasquale, Tommy De Pasquale, Matt Mock, John Rankin, Damien Mittenzwey, Christian Marks and Michael Rosario and were coached by Coaches Jim Gregg and Kevin Kelley and supported by Team Mom, Sharon Mock; and,
