WHEREAS, Nabhi Christian Ministries is a non-profit founded in 1996 as a leader in advocating safe pathways for the healthy development of children victimized by or exposed to drugs, violence, and other harsh environments in Allegheny County. Its mission is to enhanced impoverished communities by reducing havoc and creating healthy environments that mentor , train and develop quality citizens of all ages; and,
WHEREAS, since 1997, NCM has honored leaders who are committed to building and strengthening the community. The NCM Mother’s Day “Come Boldly” Brunch will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2018 and will be honoring Andrea “Andie” James with their 2018 NCM “Community SHERO” Award; and,
WHEREAS, Andrea James has been a force in the community with her service and dedication. Her early work included the Stork’s Nest, a program for low income pregnant teens and women designed to increase the number of women receiving early and regular prenatal care in an effort to prevent cases of low birth-weight, premature births and infant deaths. Subsequently, Andrea was a high school mentor for Career Connections Charter School to increase academic performance and classroom study through effective strategies. In addition, Andrea has been a volunteer at the Veteran’s Administration, an active and valuable member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and a long time special events volunteer for the NCM; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Andrea James for her commitment and dedication to her community, for her advocacy for health and education for women and girls, for her work ethic and unmatched volunteer service and congratulates Andrea James for receiving the Nabhi Christian Ministries “Community SHERO” Award.
