WHEREAS, started by Joe Natoli in 1953, the Morningside Little League Association is celebrating their 65th Anniversary, making this organization the second oldest city organization still in operation today, offering the community t-ball, little league, pony, and colt leagues; and
WHEREAS, in 1955 the Morningside team competed in the Pennsylvania state championships held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania where they came in second place; and
WHEREAS, Sam “Sudden Sam” McDowell, after playing for the Morningside Little League Association, played in the major leagues from 1961 to 1975, including a stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1975; and
WHEREAS, many players from Morningside have continued on in their baseball careers, and now play professional baseball in leagues overseas; and
WHEREAS, over the years numerous Morningside teams have competed in the annual Mayor’s Cup Championships Games held at PNC Park; and
WHEREAS, showing the long tradition and importance this Association had played in the history of our city, many current Morningside Little League players are the great-grandchildren of former players; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does herby commend the Morningside Little League Association for years of dedication to their community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 12th to be “Morningside Little League Association Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
