Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Allegheny County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial for their noble mission to honor fallen officers of Allegheny County and recognizes Erich (Ric) Geppert and Erich (Rocky) Geppert for their dedication, diligence and commitment to honor their fellow officers by bringing their stories to the community for induction and onto the wall of the Allegheny County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny County is a monument to Allegheny County's law enforcement community in honor of fallen officers of both the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and suburban departments. The original memorial was dedicated in September 1996 near the Carnegie Science Center but was moved with the construction of Heinz Field and rededicated nearby in May 2003 ;and,

WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial honors fallen officers from the 1850's to the present with much of the historical information coming from the Officer Down Memorial Page, Inc. and from internet research ;and,

WHEREAS, this year, the Law Enforcement Memorial of Allegheny County will induct 40 officers, many of whom were identified though historical or legacy research as their stories and circumstances were lost in history ;and,

WHEREAS, two officers from Oakmont, PA are credited with finding the majority of the fallen officers not easily identified through simple research. Erich Geppert (Ric) and his son Erich Geppert (Rocky) spent years researching to find officers who died in the line of duty but whose information had been lost or buried in archival data. Their diligent research and the commitment to their fellow officers resulted in the induction of most of the 40 officers identified and all of the 19 City of Pittsburgh officers to be inducted this year. The Gepperts' persistent and diligent work included exhaustive research, outreach to families and a commitment to find the lost souls of the police community in order to honor their service; and,
