Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Judge John A. Zottola on receiving the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community for his dedication to our community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 to be "Judge John A. Zottola Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life and honor those who have devoted their lives to improving our community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 50 years as well as members of the Allegheny County Bar Association; and,

 

WHEREAS, the 2018 Annual Judicial Reception will honor Judge John A. Zottola with the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community; and, 

 

WHEREAS, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Judge John A. Zottola began his career in the criminal justice system as Assistant District Attorney of Allegheny County. Elected to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County in 1994, he has served as judge in both the Criminal Division and in the Orphans’ Court. An advocate for mental health treatment and a champion of veterans’ issues, Judge Zottola was a principle architect in the creation of the Allegheny County Veterans Court. A treatment court approach to criminal justice has demonstrably shown that treatment, time and gain, is key to changing someone’s life; and,  

 

WHEREAS, a tireless advocate for our community, Judge Zottola has served as supervisor judge of the Allegheny County Investigative Grand Jury, Allegheny County Mental Health Court, as well as Allegheny County Veterans Court, a position he currently holds. He currently chairs the Mental Health and Justice Advisory Committee of the Commission, a commission he helped create, which utilizes human services and treatment to best serve those within the criminal justice system; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Judge John A. Zottola on receiving the Judge James R. McGregor Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Community for his dedication to our community; and,
