WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ urban high schools, has drawn students from nine diverse communities and offers academic programs at all levels, complemented by a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs and sports; and,
WHEREAS, Allderdice High School has a proud athletic history and this year, the Lady Dragons Girls Basketball Team brought pride to the Allderdice community by defeating Westinghouse High School in the City League Championship game 49-43, which made them undefeated in the City League for the first time in ten years in school history. The Lady Dragons finished the 2017-2018 season with 15-10 overall record; and,
WHEREAS, in that Championship Game, the Lady Dragons were led by Sophomores Sophia North scoring 15 points, Emma Waite scoring 14 points and McKenzie Thompson scoring 10 points. Emma Waite had scored all of her 14 points in the 4th Quarter helping secure the win for the Lady Dragons and earning the MVP of the game; and,
WHEREAS, Coached and mentored by Coach Ellen Guillard and Assistants Mattie Collins-Woods and Lilly Saitz, with Manager Navada Burwell, Statistician Jacey Fontenot and Athletic Trainer Brandon Mazza, the Lady Dragons were made of up of Seniors Markeya Killer, Aquaria Wester and Nancy Jackson, Junior Raelyn Oakes and Sophomores Emma Waite, Sophia North, Keira Coleman, Nautica Burwell, Brooklyn Jones and McKenzie Thompson; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Principal Dr. James McCoy and Coaches Ellen Guillard and Assistant Coaches Mattie Collins-Wood and Lilly Saitz for their leadership and commitment to the Lady Dragons Basketball Team and congratulates the Lady Dragons on a successful and winning season; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 10, 2018 to be “ALLDERDICE LADY DRAGONS BASKETBALL DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
