Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize The Center for Urban Biblical Ministry at Geneva College for 30 years of dedication and service to the community of faith; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, January 20, 2018, to be "Center for Urban Biblical Ministry at Geneva College Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry (CUBM) began in 1988 with a group of urban pastors joining together from varying denominations to provide theological training opportunities for the leaders in their churches; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry went on to form a partnership with Geneva College to provide associate degrees so that those who were studying could receive college credit for their studies and work; and,

 

WHEREAS, despite CUBM having graduated more than 200 students, many of whom have gone on to obtain advanced degrees, the mission and the challenge remains, as many church workers, leaders and future workers need the proper training to be successful in today’s Church; and,

 

WHEREAS, many of CUBM’s graduates have gone on to serve our community with distinction.  The Rev. Dr. LeRoy Walker, Rev. Delano Paige, Rev. Thomas Smith and our late City Councilman Rev. Duane A. Darkins, just to name a few; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry is moving into its second 30 years with continued resolve to impact the Western Pennsylvania area for good as it continues to teach and train a new generation of students and leaders; and,

 

WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 20, 2018, the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry at Geneva College will kick off its next 30 years at its Alumni Brunch; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize The Center for Urban Biblical Ministry at Geneva College for 30 years of dedication and service to the community of faith; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, January 20, 2018, to be “Center for Urban Biblical Ministry at Geneva College Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
