Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Elaine Effort for her dedication to providing open, honest, and reliable news coverage, celebrates her decades of service to the Pittsburgh community, and wishes her the best during her retirement; and, BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 28, 2017 to be "Elaine Effort Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, born in Detroit, Elaine Effort developed her passion for broadcasting as a student at the University of Michigan. She started her career at WUOM in Ann Arbor before moving to Pittsburgh to begin a storied tenure at KQV News Radio; and,

 

WHEREAS, Elaine has become a reliable fixture for insightful, candid, and straightforward news reporting and a staple of many Pittsburghers’ commutes home from work; and,

 

WHEREAS, during her 38-year career at KQV, Elaine has covered the early days of Pittsburgh’s economic transformation, pioneering transplant surgeries, high-profile homicide trials, Allegheny County government, seven Pittsburgh Mayors, countless Members of Pittsburgh City Council, and more; and,

 

WHEREAS, outside of broadcasting, Elaine enjoys time with her husband Edmund Effort, her children Edmundson and April, and her granddaughter Hannah; and,

 

WHEREAS, Elaine is heavily involved in her faith as a Lector and Chalice Bearer at the Church of the Holy Cross in Homewood; and,

 

WHEREAS, she is also an active member of the community as a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, and she is now in her 26th year as a Girl Scout leader.  In addition, Elaine is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation and part of historic social groups The Northeasterners, Inc. and The Girl Friends, Inc.; and,
