WHEREAS, the Northside Steelers are part of the Northside Youth Athletic Association (NSYAA) which provides football and cheerleading for youth ages 5-14; and,
WHEREAS, the importance of the NSYAA cannot be overstated, as it provides an outlet for at-risk youth that often times is not offered by the public grade school system; and,
WHEREAS, this year the 2017 Termite Team, comprised of youth ages 9-10, were the champions of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Youth Athletic Initiative (SPYAI); and,
WHEREAS, the home of the Northside Steelers Termite Team is Oliver High School, while they practice at Fowler Field on Charles St in the Northside; and,
WHEREAS, led by Coach Robert Collins, the team’s staff include members Michael Knight, Otha King, James Caroline, Phil Barker, Terrell Glenn, Paul Manysiha and Rob Staton; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 19, 2017 to be “Northside Steelers Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
