Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors Barbara Rudiak for her continued work in bettering the South Side community for all its inhabitants and visitors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 5th , 2017 to be "Barbara Rudiak Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Barbara Rudiak, as an educator and former well-respected and innovative principal of Phillips Elementary School, continues to use her experience and skill to create a healthy, safe, and vibrant South Side community for all; and

WHEREAS, she unselfishly devotes her time and energy in her retirement to improving the welfare of the South Side community, using every possible resource she can identify, and collaborating with all who will join her to serve the community; and

WHEREAS, Barbara has worked tirelessly as President of the South Side Community Council to develop goals and strategies to engage residents' collective voice through work with city departments and more frequent communication with public safety officials, to work with universities and students to improve behavior and responsibility as residents and patrons, and to increase resident involvement in neighborhood stabilization and revitalization; and

WHEREAS, Barbara, through the South Side Community Council, has supported and strengthened the area Block Watches, enhancing the quality of life for those who call the South Side their home; and

WHEREAS, Barbara has worked with volunteers, students and community groups to increase and maintain the beauty of the South Side, including support for Green n'At efforts and events, partnerships with Ormsby to improve and maintain facilities and provide programs for families, and establishing a public art program that promotes both graffiti abatement and public art appreciation; and

WHEREAS, Barbara has sought a collective voice to identify solutions for parking issues and ensure that residents and businesses are represented in conversations regarding the future of Carson Street and the surrounding communities; and
