Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby acknowledges Caitlyn McNulty and the Brookline Teen Outreach staff for providing teenagers in South Pittsburgh with a diverse array of after-school programs and opportunities that bolster their education and compliment our beloved community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council hereby declares Tuesday, November 20, 2017, "Brookline Teen Outreach Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the hours immediately following school are crucial for developing teenagers into healthy and active adults, as these hours are often the only ones in the day when a teen can structure their schedule and choose the activities that they engage in; and

WHEREAS, after-school programs for teens can aid teenagers by helping them manage these crucial hours, both by giving them more structure in this time and diverse educational experiences that work to compliment their education; and

WHEREAS, though Caitlyn McNulty was already engaged in providing after-school services by tutoring and making counseling services available to teenagers, she recognized that Brookline was still lacking in after-school programs for teenagers, and accordingly expanded the services that she was able to provide by establishing the Brookline Teen Outreach Center in 2015; and

WHEREAS, in addition to greatly expanding the tutoring and counseling services that Ms. McNulty was previously able to provide, the Brookline Teen Outreach Center provides teens with community service opportunities and diverse educational programming including: podcasting workshops, writing workshops, STEM programming, and college application assistance; and

WHEREAS, Brookline Teen Outreach understands the diverse needs of teens, as, in addition to the above services, they both give teens ample time to socialize with their friends, relax and play, and allow their programming to be dynamic; adjusting the programming they provide to fit the interests of the teens that they serve; and

WHEREAS, the staff of Brookline Teen Outreach are mostly active or retired educators or counselors who know the importance of proving teens with these services and accordingly volunteer their time to provide teens of South Pittsburgh with this plethora of after school programming; and

WHEREAS, Brookline Teen Outreach has been a positive influence in the lives of teenagers across South Pittsburgh, and excitingly will continue to ...
