Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend those who served our country and those who are serving our country and their families with this U.S. Premiere of "All Quiet on the Western Front," and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, November 4, 2017 to be "PRIME STAGE THEATRE'S 'ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT DAY'" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, with this United States Premiere of the stage adaptation of "All Quiet On the Western Front,"  Prime Stage Theatre recognizes, in 2017, the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entering World War One and the many personal connections Pittsburgh had to World War One; and,

 

WHEREAS, we recognize that Private Thomas Enright, a native of Bloomfield, was one of the first three Americans killed in action during the war; several Pittsburgh companies, including United States Steel Corporation, Westinghouse, Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, and the Aluminum Company of America provided products and support to the war effort; and the University of Pittsburgh sent a letter to President Woodrow Wilson placing “all the available resources of the University which the Government of the United States may require, in case of threatened of actual war, at the disposal of the Government;” and,

 

WHEREAS, we also recognize the numerous monuments and memorials in the Pittsburgh area that commemorate the region’s involvement in The Great War and the local residents who served our country. Most noticeable are the columns that mark the entrance to the Boulevard of the Allies at Grant Street created by sculptor Frank Vittor; and,

 

WHEREAS, with our partnership with Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, we honor veterans and those currently serving in the military.  Through our partnership with Britsburgh, we also recognize British soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice; and,
