Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 24th, 2017 to be "Kate Florence Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Kate Florence, President of the Forbes Fund, will be honored on October 24th, 2017 as the first ever recipient of the Servant Leader Celebration Award from The Pittsburgh Project; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence is a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, certified by the Avraham Y. Goldratt Institute as a management trainer, received her Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University and Bachelor’s from Rider University; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence and her husband, Tony Florence, recently celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary and her daughter, Kayce Karlo, has a beautiful baby daughter, Dakota Kate Karlo, who is named for Mrs. Florence; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence has more than forty years of direct experience with a variety of nonprofit organizations, foundations, public agencies and corporations in service to Western Pennsylvania; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence has been honored as the 2008 winner of the ATHENA Award in Pittsburgh, which is recognized internationally as the premier honor for excellence in leadership among business, professional and community leaders; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence is a recipient of the 1999 Greater Pittsburgh YWCA's Tribute to Women Award where she has extensive board service experience; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence will be recognized this year for the Pittsburgh Business Times “Innovator of the Year” and “Career Achievement in Innovation” awards, and will have the “Kate Dewey Lifetime Achievement Award in Public Service” created by the Jefferson Awards in her honor; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Florence has philanthropically served her local community and provided invaluable leadership to her professional field for more than forty years in the City of Pittsburgh alone; and,
