WHEREAS, in 1927, the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered as a mixed chapter comprised of undergraduate and graduate members of Delta Sigma Theta; the founding members were Lillian W. Brown, Irene Morris Johnson, Janie E. Everett, Edwina W. Primas, Alta Gibbs and Helen Haynes Smith; and,
WHEREAS, after review and reflection, it was decided that there was a need for a separate graduate chapter, and the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was established on January 30, 1971; and,
WHEREAS, while under the Alpha Epsilon Mixed Chapter status, Chapter members hosted the 10th National Convention in 1929 and the 1946 and 1956 Midwest Regional Conferences, prior to being moved to the Eastern Region. The Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter has hosted the 1968, 2005 and 2016 Eastern Regional Conferences; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter has been committed to responding to the Programmatic Five-Point Thrust of the National Organization of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., namely, Educational Development, Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, International Awareness and Involvement and Political Awareness and Involvement; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Deltas have also answered the call to serve young adults and seniors through programs and events such as the signature Ebony Fashion Fair Show, WomanSpace East, Dorothy Day Mentoring Project, Delta Senior Connection, Community Health Fairs, Mental Health Workshops, Walk for Water Projects, Delta Dear Luncheons, Global Links Volunteer Partnership and the signature Sojourner House Outreach Project; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter celebrates 90 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Wyndham Hotel. This celebration follows a special Presidential Forum which will feature several past Presidents who will share stories of their Presidential years and a Round-Up and Reclamation Activity; and,
