Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Work (formerly Team Tassy), the North Side Leadership Council, Allegheny General Hospital and the residents and business community of the North Side for their success in helping the people of their sister neighborhoods Menelas and Cite Soleil work their way out of extreme poverty through finding and maintaining dignified, family-sustaining jobs; and, BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 10th, 2017 to be "Work Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Work, formerly Team Tassy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation based in Pittsburgh, with strong ties to Pittsburgh's North Side. Work assists residents of the two poorest neighborhoods in Port au Prince, Haiti - Menelas (MEN ah lahs) and Cite? Soleil (SEET SOlay) in breaking the cycle of devastating poverty by working with them to obtain and retain family sustaining jobs; and,

WHEREAS, recognizing the North Side's deep historical ties with assisting the residents of Haiti, and Menelas/Cite Soleil in particular, on October 4, 2016, Pittsburgh City Council issued a Proclamation declaring the North Side and Menelas/Cite Soleil to be "Sister Neighborhoods;" and,

WHEREAS, in the year since the Proclamation Work and the North Side Leadership Conference have expanded the North Side's ties to Menelas and Cite Soleil through enlisting the support of the North Side business community, its neighborhood organizations, and its many residents, including and especially Allegheny General Hospital; and,

WHEREAS, these North Side residents, businesses and organizations have provided Work and the North Side Leadership Conference with invaluable assistance in educating the public about Work's efforts in breaking the cycle of poverty in Haiti, and in fundraising to achieve this goal; and,

WHEREAS, with the assistance of the North Side Leadership Conference Work was able to accomplish these educational and fundraising goals through participation in the annual Fat Tuesday Party at the Elks Club as well as at the Deutschtown Music Festival at Alphabet City. And whereas Work's main annual fundraiser, the Blackjack Spectacular, is to be held on October 19, 2017 at the Grand Hall at the Priory; and,

WHEREAS, the North Side's assistance has helped Work provide the means to boost many families in Menelas and Cite Soleil from extreme poverty; and,
