WHEREAS, volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not met otherwise through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Linwood Alford with their Lifetime Achievement Award; and,
WHEREAS, Linwood Alford can best be described as a leader, a role model and an entrepreneur in his neighborhood and in the larger community. After returning from Vietnam and spending time finding his way in life, Linwood Alford found work in construction, and as a foreman and union representative for Labor Union Local 833, he helped build the Shippingport nuclear power station and other power plants. During his tenure with the Union Local, he participated in the creation of the "Get Ready" apprentice Program, sponsoring 50 people, mostly women and people of color, through a 3 1/2 week training program to enter the trades. He also owned two restaurants during that time in the Beaver area; and,
WHEREAS, a native of Beaver Falls, PA and the father of 5 children, Linwood Alford lives his passion to help people by being involved in the "Moral Mondays" which are peaceful monthly protests to draw attention to immigrants' rights, criminal justice inequities, workers' rights, LGBT issues and environmental problems. He is a lifelong member of the NAACP, a past Executive Director of the Beaver County Minority Coalition, and the Equal Opportunity Coordinator for the Beaver County Democratic Party. In addition he is a trustee of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Vice President and Director of Civil Rights and Justice of the Beaver-Lawrence Central Labor Council, the Aliquippa Council of Men and Fathers, the Beaver County Community Development Board, Lincoln Park Performing Arts and work on behalf of military veterans; and,
