Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 to be "Starkist Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, StarKist Co. is a food company that is focused on healthy, shelf-stable seafood products in the United States; and,

 

WHEREAS, as an industry innovator, StarKist was the first brand to introduce healthy snacks and meals such as StarKist single-serve pouch products, which include the ever-popular “Tuna Creations,” “Salmon Creations” and “StarKist Selects;” and

 

WHEREAS, as America’s favorite tuna, StarKist represents a tradition of quality, consumer trust and a commitment to sustainability; and,

 

WHEREAS, StarKist Co. originated from the French Sardine Company, founded in 1917, and first marketed tuna under the StarKist name in 1942.  Their charismatic brand icon, Charlie the Tuna, swam into the hearts of tuna fans in 1961 and is still a fan favorite today; and,

 

WHEREAS, StarKist is celebrating its 100th Anniversary Employee Celebration this year at the Senator John Heinz History Center on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017; and,

 

WHEREAS, this celebration is meant to honor employees and all that StarKist has done its 100 years of existence and commemorate the company's rich history; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Heinz History Center, a Smithsonian-affiliate museum, will be honoring StarKist with a 1,500 square ft. exhibit that will feature aspects of the history of the tuna industry and how StarKist has created many memories and healthy meals in the past 100 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, with StarKist being one of the nation's largest tuna providers and based right here in Pittsburgh, StarKist has contributed greatly to the history of this great city; and,

 

WHEREAS, as StarKist looks to the future, they will continue to focus on providing healthy meals and product innovations that will help the company grow even more in its next 100 years; and,
