Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 3, 2017 to be "Douglas W. Anderson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Douglas W. Anderson, a lifelong resident of the Hill District and lifelong member of Grace Memorial United Presbyterian Church, was born on February 25, 1923, where he served as a positive example to the community until his passing on September 13, 2017; and,

 

WHEREAS, married to Louise S. Jones on June 10, 1949, he is survived by his wife and children Douglas W. Anderson Jr., Audrey L. Anderson, and John E. Anderson Sr., as well as 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II, in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 48 years, and was a dedicated Free Mason for 50 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson was known as a trailblazer in the Civil Rights Movement in Pittsburgh, becoming the first African American member of the IBEW Local #5 Trade Union; and,

 

WHEREAS, as a family man, Mr. Anderson has grown good seeds to carry on his legacy of community involvement and dedicated service; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 3, 2017 to be “Douglas W. Anderson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
