WHEREAS, Glenn and Michelle Benigni opened Fat Head's Saloon at 1805 E. Carson Street in Pittsburgh's South Side neighborhood on September 11, 1992; and,
WHEREAS, Fat Head's Saloon has become a destination for craft beers within South Side and developed its own "Fat Head's culture" following as the neighborhood's popularity grew; and,
WHEREAS, Fat Head's Saloon has grown from a sole neighborhood institution into a major production brewery, churning out as many as 32,000 barrels of beer annually and with locations spanning into Ohio and Oregon, and set to open in North Carolina; and,
WHEREAS, Fat Head's Saloon has won gold medals for its "Hop Juju Imperial India Pale Ale" at the Great American Beer Festival in 2013 and 2015, and a bronze medal in 2016, when Fat Head's five total medals were more than any other brewery in the country; and,
WHEREAS, Fat Head's Saloon is looking to ramp up production to 65,000 barrels annually in the next five years and eventually to 125,000 barrels per year, spreading a Pittsburgh tradition even further; and,
WHEREAS, Glenn and Michelle’s commitment to the South Side and their encouragement of a community atmosphere has not gone unnoticed; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors Fat Head's Saloon for 25 years of serving the South Side community and as a staple of the Pittsburgh beer community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 26, 2017 to be “Fat Head's Saloon Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
