WHEREAS, founded in 1917, the Hadassah-Pittsburgh is a North American Zionist Jewish Women's organization dedicated to the service of Jewish education and programs in America and Israel, including medical facilities, youth rescue, career training, and land development; and,
WHEREAS, the organization was instrumental in constructing the Hadassah-Hebrew University Hospital in Israel and developing the Hadassah Medical Organization, which continues to establish medical training programs, research laboratories, and other healthcare facilities through Israel; and,
WHEREAS, since its founding 100 years ago, the organization has grown to over 24 local groups with a combined membership of 4,200 people; and,
WHEREAS, with a tag line of "the Power of Women Who Do," Hadassah-Pittsburgh work includes volunteerism, public health and medicine, advocacy, and collaboration with other organizations such as the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation and UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital; and,
WHEREAS, to celebrate its century of work in the Pittsburgh region and beyond, Hadassah-Pittsburgh is honoring four outstanding individuals with the Myrtle Wreath Award for their dedication to community, workforce development, healthcare, and philanthropy. The award winners are Nancy D. Zionts, Dr. Yoel Sadovsky, Bill Strickland, and Cynthia D. Shapira; and,
WHEREAS, Nancy D. Zionts, MBA serves as the Chief Operating and Program Officer for the Jewish Healthcare Foundation where she is responsible for the grant agenda for the foundation. Ms. Zionts led the planning and development of the Squirrel Hill Health Center, a federally qualified health center and has worked on several publications on the topic of aging and senior care; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Yoel Sadovsky is the Executive Director of Magee-Women's Research Institute, Elsie Hillman Chair of Women's Health Research, Distinguished Professor of OBGYN, Microbiology, and Molecular Genetics, and Associate Dean of Women's Health Researc...
